Marietta, Georgia celebrates the Fourth of July with one of the largest Independence Day events in the state. Thousands of residents and visitors fill the streets around Marietta Square to enjoy the parade, festival, concerts, and fireworks. The city closes roads, adds security, and sets up dozens of vendor booths. It’s not just a holiday—it’s a major city event.
According to Marietta Parks and Recreation, the 2023 Fourth of July Festival brought in over 30,000 people. The parade featured more than 90 local groups, and the fireworks display lasted nearly 25 minutes.
Luis Perez, owner of Vilchis Tree Services Pro of Marietta, has lived and worked in the city for years. He says, “People here care about traditions. The Fourth of July brings everyone together. It’s something families plan around every year.”
What Makes It Different
Many cities host fireworks. Marietta offers a full day of events that involve the whole community.

The city blocks off traffic and sets up public restrooms, food vendors, and activity areas for children. Local businesses sponsor floats, and civic groups hand out flags.
Luis adds, “It’s not just about watching. People take part. We’ve trimmed trees before the parade route just to help clear the view.”
The Parade
The parade features marching bands, scouts, dance teams, veterans, and local business floats. It starts on Roswell Street and moves through downtown.
In 2022, Cobb Travel & Tourism ranked the Marietta Fourth of July Parade as one of the top five holiday parades in Georgia.
Luis says, “My kids watch the whole thing. They love the music and the candy tosses. It feels safe and fun.”
The Festival
The festival covers Marietta Square with booths, games, food trucks, and music. You can find handmade crafts, barbecue, lemonade, and cold treats.
Vendors report strong sales every year. In 2023, over 150 booths signed up, according to city records.
Luis says, “We walk the square every year. It’s good to see familiar faces and try something new. My crew always finds a good lunch there.”
Fireworks
The show starts at 9:30 PM and lasts over 20 minutes. People bring blankets and chairs early to get a good view. The fireworks launch from a secure area near the old train depot.
The city uses professional operators and sets up safety zones. Police and fire teams are on-site before and during the show.
Luis says, “We’ve watched from every side of the square. It’s loud, bright, and packed—but in a good way.”
Why It Matters
Marietta’s Fourth of July event reflects how the city values community, family, and tradition. Residents take part year after year. They show pride in their town and welcome visitors with open arms.
Luis says, “It reminds us why we love this place. People know each other. They celebrate together. That’s why Marietta does the Fourth of July right.”
